Eastern Meditation Vs Mindfulness Meditation: What Are The Differences

Generally, people from the West always think of meditation as originating from Asian countries and cultures such as Tibet and India. However, most online meditation classes are designed and tilted more towards the Easter cultures.

Objects and symbols of meditation such as gongs, the smiling Buddha as well as the pictures of people in long robes are all very Eastern, and there is nothing wrong with all of that.

However, one problem many people have is not being able to flow with meditation classes that are based on such foreign cultures. This is most evident when people try to fake or impose the Indian accent on themselves to feel grounded in the training of Eastern meditation.

Well, whichever way you may look at it, the most important thing here is for you to learn how to meditate to gain full consciousness of your lifestyle while in the West. Yes, you can argue that mindfulness meditation in the West isn’t what it is painted to be, but at least is it still closely linked to it.

In real sense, mindfulness meditation involves being completely present to the least thing you are doing per time. This, therefore, means that, if you are doing some house chores such as washing some clothes, you give all your attention to the task at hand.

With that, everything will go faster with a high level of productive results.It then follows suite that when your attention is divided during a task, less is done, and the little achieved may be achieved with less perfection

In mindfulness, the ultimate goal is for you to focus your attention only on the things you are doing, whereas in meditation, the most you may do is to focus your attention on your breath. And in the case of other forms of meditation such as walking meditation, all you need to do is pay absolutely to each step that you take without straying your thoughts to calls or emails awaiting your response or actions.

And in the Eastern form of meditation, the concept is just the same as this, although with some forms of spiritual components of unity and contentment. In the other way round, mindfulness meditation seems to be more of a scientific technique whereas the practices in the East are somewhat esoteric.

In simpler terms, this means that the Eastern practice is usually tilted towards making you to consciously open up your mind and attune your energies to that nature. Doing this can feel super relaxing and good, especially when you are into the process without having your thoughts wander too much into different thoughts.

Well, this is not a call to impose any of these to you, instead, trying out both sides and seeing which sits well with you is the best way to have the best experience. In reality, the onset of meditation usually involves trying to know and understand your mind.

By this, you may not be able to have instant control over your mind, but with consistent practice and trying, you will be adding bricks success to each practice.

In summary, the most important thing is not to impose a practice that doesn’t align well with you over yourself. This is why most people enjoy the Eastern feel of meditation, although others may see it as being weird.
