Self-compassion – The Best Solution To Procrastination

The great advantage of self-compassion is that when we practice self-compassion we get more motivated. This happens because when we have self-compassion we develop more affinity towards our future self. As a result of self-compassion we realize the bad outcome of procrastination which we will have to face in our day-to-day life. Because of our physical tiredness at the moment or because of the difficulties we have to face to complete a particular task we develop the tendency to avoid the task for the time being. We procrastinate because of our inability to overcome the anxiety, fear and feeling of discomfort that we have when we think about doing a particular task. Procrastination is the outcome of our failure to manage our emotions. Laziness will also lead to procrastination. When we feel that we are under-performed we realize that we have been lazy. The inner critic in each of us will raise the alarm when we realize that we lag behind because of our laziness. However, self-criticism is not as effective as self-compassion in motivating us. When self-criticism fails to motivate us, it becomes more severe. But it may not succeed in motivating us to the desired extent. Many studies have proved that those who are self-compassionate perform and achieve much more than those who are self-critical. Students who have developed self-compassion are not prone to procrastination. They promptly start the work related to their assignment on the very fast day and the students who have the tendency to procrastinate postpone everything to the last minute.

Self-compassion will ensure long-term happiness

When we are self-compassionate we are able to maintain our self-control. Self-compassion enables us to realize and anticipate the negative outcomes that we may have to face in future if we lose our self-control. In other words, when we are self-compassionate we think about the long-term benefits. Self-compassion enables us to think and act in such a way so as to ensure long-term comfort as well as benefit. Those who have no self-compassion resort to short-term thinking and in a hurry to escape from the immediate discomfort or present unpleasantness they fail to think about long-term happiness. They are more concerned about the present discomfort and forget to think how things will be in the future. Another outcome of lack of self-compassion is lack of self-discipline. Those who are not self-compassionate will have no self-control. When we are without self-control we are unable to relate to our future self with compassion. In other words, due to lack of self-discipline we fail to relate to our future self with compassion.

More importance to humanness

Self-compassion enables to feel good about oneself whereas self-esteem is based on our desire to feel better than others. Many people think that self-criticism is a more effective way to get motivated to achieve the goals. But, self-compassion is a healthier way to think about future and to shape our future. When we are self-compassionate we get the motivation to learn and grow and as a result we work hard and we work with discipline. Self-compassionate people learn and grow in order to make the future happy and comfortable and not for winning over others. When we are compassionate to ourselves we give more importance to our humanness. Self-compassion will ensure perfect psychological health and also better resilience.
