Breaking Out From Living An Approval-Seeking Lifestyle

When a time of change, confusion, and trouble comes; a lot of us ponder and ask ourselves about the way we want to live. Also, we think deep on how we can make changes on what matters the most.

The particular subject of all that I am observing any time I relate with people at the moment is that; most of them are tired of the way they were living. They are, also, tired of the stress and disillusioned lifestyle they are facing.

Wholeheartedly, I can feel it as well, and I can hear you. This world is really moving so fast.

Therefore, why do we move this fast? Also, where did we get the stress from? And what are we going to do at this point?

Fine, let us reason along a particular old parable that can give wisdom, and we can, as well, reflect on. The parable is about a tree that is useless.

There were a carpenter and his apprentice. Both of them were walking through a forest; a large one.

Along the way, they came across gnarled, old, huge, tall, gorgeous oak tree.

“Why do think this tree is very huge, gnarled, old, tall, and gorgeous?” The carpenter asked the apprentice. And his apprentice answered his master by saying: “I don’t know… but why?”

The carpenter answered, “the reason is because the tree is useless.” Assuming it were to be useful, it would have been chopped off and used for something good.

This means; a coffin made from this tree will rot, likewise bolt made from the tree will sink.

Also, a beam from it will have termite, and a door will ooze sap. Therefore, it is a useless timber. And that is the reason for it to get so old.

And the uselessness has made it tall and beautiful. Even, the attractiveness can make you sit and feel relax on a sunny day. Meanwhile, no one actually knows how useful it can be to as useless as this beautiful tree.

He continued by saying, “What can it be to be useless? It is simply not striving to turn out to be something, to be a special person or proving your worth.

Being useless is just to relent, to be at ease, to be comfortable with your true in a simple way and not pushing forward for greatness.

When you cannot become anything, can’t do anything, have nothing to accomplish; when we decided to free ourselves everything and leaving thing alone, then, we can say we are free like the tree”

I so much love the parable. It reminds me of how I sometimes our self-worth is hindered to become “useful” to other people.

We sometimes estimate how important we are to our partners, family, company, friends, community, and the world at large.

Also, there may be a perception that our self-esteem only occurs in our doings. And the fear from within that our existence is not enough.

Furthermore, by taking our time to ask questions about ourselves on what in particular is that we trying really hard to become “useful” for, and for what reason, and for whose purpose.

What will be our gain after inputting all our productivity and efficiency, and who is going to be praised or appreciated?

Are we being busy just to fulfil the need or filling our moments up with activities to ‘become someone’ in the face of the world?

The fact is that each person is worthy and valuable as they are, and everyone makes a difference to this our world around us. No one is useless, despite, they are pictured in such way by the people surrounding them.

Therefore, keep in mind that what others has labeled you with does not matter, likewise, what they are thinking about or want from you.

Your only worth is not decided on what you are doing. You are complete and stand to be worthy in every of your strength of existence.

SUMMARY

Someone can be tagged to be useless because his/her worth is not noticed. Meanwhile, in such condition, an individual may practically see himself/herself as a useless person.

But, your usefulness is attached to what people are seeing or observing about your existence.
